TAKE A DEEP BREATH

WHAT I LEARNED 40 YEARS AGO TRANSFORMED MY LIFE, FOREVER.
TAKE A DEEP BREATH

“Breath is the junction point between mind, body and spirit.
Every change of mental state is reflected in the breath and then in the body.”

Deepak Chopra

Forty years ago, in the Autumn of 1975, the Benevolent and Generous Universe gave me a gift of value beyond measure, the conscious connected breath. I am deeply grateful for all the possibilities to deepen and transform my life that I received at that time. In a short space of 2 months that Fall I attended a graduate est training with Werner Erhard, received 10 Rolfing sessions, and met and experienced a pioneering breathwork session with Leonard Orr, the Father of Rebirthing Breathwork, on his first trip to New York.

As you may well imagine, my life has not been the same since. I had been doing pranayama in yoga for 5 years and professional voice lessons for 23 years, and this was very different. From the first session with a snorkel in a deep Jacuzzi bathtub on the upper Westside of NYC, I knew that even though I had huge resistance and scepticism, I had to follow this energy.

REVELATION AFTER REVELATION HAS FOLLOWED.

The inner guidance gleaned when I meditate on the breath has led me steadily in these years and supported an ongoing healing process. When you take a conscious deep breath it is a dynamic action. It says to ALL THAT IS, “I am alive! I want to be alive! I choose to give myself life! I want to be of service!”

My experience that day 40 years ago revealed a decision that I made in the process of being born. That realisation set me on a course to learn more about my source experience and the decisions that I had made. I longed to experience peace and to know how the creative process really works. My journey evolved into a quest to inform and educate others about the impact of birth and the true nature of the creative process. I was inspired to cause an effect on birthing practices as we knew them in the end of the 70’s.

“Taking a breath is our first autonomous act, in the first precious moments on earth. For many, this ‘defining’ first breath is forced and is taken in shock and pain, the harsh air burning delicate throats and lungs. In addition, if the life-nourishing umbilical cord is severed immediately after birth, the flow of oxygen and nutrient rich cord blood is cut off prematurely, causing a physiological deficit.

This shocking memory resides in every cell and causes fear to accompany our thoughts about the breath. In response we may choose not to breathe deeply, not to take in this full life-giving and purifying substance. We resist, we hold back, we breathe shallowly, unwilling to return to those Source Experience sensations.”
(Excerpt from the upcoming book about the impact of birth on all of Life, by Binnie A Dansby and Lynne Thorsen)

FROM THE FIRST BREATH TO THE LAST, BREATHING IS A PRIMARY SOURCE OF ENERGY AND WELL-BEING.
How we breathe reflects and expresses our relationship to life – free, easy and flowing or restricted, held back and guarded.

“A thought planted in the mind, nourished by the breath, takes root in the heart of every cell in the body.”
Binnie A Dansby

The respiratory system is the most fundamental of all the sustaining systems in the human body. The constant, connected breath evokes our primal connection to the rhythm of all life. As you balance inhale and exhale you create balance and harmony in mind and body. Physically, when you inhale, oxygen enters the lungs, where it is received by the blood and carried to the cells. Fresh oxygen flushes carbon dioxide and toxins from the cells to be released when we exhale.

Similarly, at the emotional and psychological level when we give focussed attention to life-affirming thoughts and the conscious connected breath we gain access to sensations and thoughts that may be unlike those we allow into conscious awareness. This is a healing opportunity also affecting the physical.

We can now choose to change what we have been thinking below conscious awareness, nourish and heal our life diminishing ways of being and breathing. SOURCE Process and Breathwork has been developed in response to the evidence of how much our belief systems and patterns of behaviour are shaped by our experiences before, during and immediately after our birth. To breathe consciously and in balance is simple to learn, and a powerful form of pranayama. When combined with SOURCE Process work it can be a profound tool for personal development and empowerment.

A DEEPENING, MINDFUL MOMENT
Be aware of relaxing your jaw and your shoulders as you take a deep breath through your nose or your mouth.
Now enjoy another… and another…
It is easy to relax, easy to let go for a moment AND
as you are aware of relaxing, be aware of the breath moving in and out.
Express gratitude for something or someone.
Notice how your body is feeling now.
Express gratitude to your body for all that it does, AND have a great day!

BLESSINGS, Binnie
