I AM AWARE OF BIRTHING ENERGY ALL AROUND ME. NEWNESS IS EMERGING

As I write I am aware of birthing energy all around me, the births of babies to people whom I know, and new events, relationships, and exciting projects. Newness is emerging.

Living with Birth (conception, gestation and birth) as a metaphor for the creative process we call life and for all these years is cause for deep gratitude right now. I am thankful for meaning and purpose in my life. What are you most grateful for right now?

To all my American friends everywhere I send my best wishes for a Blessed and Joyful Thanksgiving!

AND, in the midst of writing to you, the Paris bombings happened, and the world shifted on its axis, yet again. We could all feel it. Outpourings of grief and shock rocked the collective consciousness. That is what is moving me to tears.

WE ARE STILL SO LOCKED IN OUR BELIEF IN SEPARATION THAT THE IDEA THAT THIS MAY BE A MIRROR OF OUR SHARED FEAR DOES NOT OCCUR, EXCEPT TO A FEW.

I was writing about Birth, and I returned to the truth that Fear is born of separation and pain and struggle. If there is fear there is no apparent Safety.

Did your mother feel safe when she was birthing you?
When you think about birth does it engender a thought of safety?
Do you feel safe with your physical body all of the time?
What is at the heart of Fear?

Consider ‘becoming’ physical. In the womb we are in water, hot water, where all needs are met. No matter what the physical and emotional circumstances, ‘inside’ becomes our definition of safety.

What if Mother perceived Danger all around her. – Would you not perceive life as Dangerous?

What if in the process of emerging from the womb it was all described as an emergency? – Would you not be expecting an emergency on some level of consciousness all of the time?

What if everyone was afraid that you would not breathe so they rubbed you with strange harsh cloth, or hit you, or shook you? – Would you not expect violence on some level all of the time?

What if in this most vulnerable time of coming forth to love, you were separated from the only body that you had known? – Would you not expect life to be about separation and the accompanying pain?

A layer of deep, profound fear of the physical has revealed itself in the time I have been studying and learning at the ‘feet of birth’. Being with pregnant couples and labouring women, as well as, working with people looking back at their births with the intention to re-experience and heal, I recognise that the Fear in developed society is so deep that we are not even aware of it.

We live in fear that this shocking event will happen again, that ‘the divine hammer’ will fall on us again. We have been coming into this life through pain, struggle, and suffering for so long that we take it for granted. This is the truth, we take lack of safety for granted. We live trying to make ourselves safe, which implies that we do not think that we are. The only way I have found to release and transform the lie, ‘Life is dangerous’, we have been telling ourselves and others is to heal the primal experience with the support of compassion and patience and breath and affirmation.

WHAT I HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST 30 PLUS YEARS IS TO LOOK FOR THE SOURCES OF PERSONAL ISSUES RATHER THAN TREAT SYMPTOMS.

I notice that Safety is a major issue in our collective consciousness on the planet. It is a major issue in our cities and in our personal lives. I think that Safety at birth is an issue that bears our attention. I believe that birth is the source event that engenders fear in human beings, and that during gestation we learn to expect danger through the way our mothers think about birth. Our source experience of a body is first in utero, in the body of our mother. Then through the process of birth we come into this life on planet earth.

Peter Fedor Freyburg is a professor of obstetrics and gynaecology, and president emeritus of the International Society for Pre and Peri Natal Psychology and Medicine. He is most recently doing research and speaking out on the subjects of psychoneuroimmunology and psychoneuroendocrinology and the possibilities of future health depending on the way we are nurtured physically and emotionally in the womb.

He says, “The human life should be considered as an indivisible continuum where each of the developmental stages is equally important; all stages interdependent and inseparable from the whole individual’s life continuum. In this continuum, the individual represents an indivisible entity of all functions on both physiological or physical, psychological and social levels. The physical, biochemical, endocrinological, immunological and psychological processes represent a whole, which cannot be divided.”

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO TAKE A HOLISTIC VIEW.

I have come to the conclusion that what we think about birth is what we think about all of life. We have given little attention to the impact of birth on all of life, and the simple fact that our life begins in the womb. It has been proven that we are educable in utero. So consequently, we must be making decisions and learning about life inside the bodies of our mothers. Making up our minds already. What she thinks about life, how she approaches life is the way she will give birth to us.

So the continuum, not just our individual life but life on the planet, life in society is affected by each birth. From parents to children, individual to individual, we perpetuate what we think about what it is to be alive.

In Skeats Etymological Dictionary of English Language, Safe is defined as unharmed, out of danger. The source of the word is the Latin Salumn meaning Whole.

What is safety to you?

Is safety having a lock on your front door? Is safety for you being able to walk on the street at night, because you have a good police force? Is safety having a wall around you so no one can get close enough to hurt you? Or, is safety an inner experience of the essence of Being Love that is unchanging behind the chaos and confusing messages?

Contemplate safety, cultivate safety, and you will attract Safety.
A place to begin is with the most fundamental of Archetypal Affirmations
MY BODY IS SAFE, NO MATTER HOW I AM FEELING!
