IS THERE ANY DOUBT THAT THIS BABY CAN SEE ITS MOTHER’S FACE?

The picture was taken when she was only minutes old. She and her mother were still sitting in the birthing tub. She convinced me that now only are babies able to see, they are truly interested.

In succeeding years I learned from several wise observers that a baby’s sight is designed to be able to see a face when held in arms. Despite this knowledge there is still a widely help perception that babies are less developed than they really are.

I THINK ALL OF US WHO WORK WITH OR KNOW BABIES HAVE A VERY DIFFERENT VIEW.
This article was sent to me yesterday. It confirms our ‘knowing’. It comes from a team of researchers at the University of Oslo and makes for a good read; “How a Newborn Baby Sees You” – A newborn infant can see its parents’ expressions at a distance of 30 cm. For the first time researchers have managed to reconstruct infants visual perception of the world.

Fascinating, don’t you think?
